The practice was established in 1980 by Jo Provan and Ray Makin and has gone on to establish an enviable reputation for its work on the urban regeneration of various city centres, most notably in the City of Manchester, but also throughout the country including projects in Bristol, Newcastle on Tyne, Southwark, Hull, Birmingham, Leeds, Stoke on Trent and all the towns of the Greater Manchester area.

Since Jo Provan’s retirement in 2000 there have been changes in the management structure with the current Board comprising Ray Makin, Andrew Burns and Company Secretary Tracey Beekman.

In 2006 the company sought improved office accommodation and, following consultation with staff it was felt that it was also an appropriate time to have a new image, including a new trading name.

The company became known as Makin Architecture and a fresh new brand and logo was launched just ahead of the move to new offices in 2007. Despite the current economic slowdown the business is positive and working hard towards future growth and expansion.

The practice is proud of the number of award winning projects for which it has been recognized but it is equally proud of its commercial attitude to client’s needs and aspirations. Our aspiration is to produce inspirational architecture which gives our clients the best possible commercial return.
